The architectural complex at Baalbek is a massive structure, with 6 components and 54 ancient columns. The largest of the three temples is dedicated to Jupiter, which has the best preserved Roman temple on Earth. The entire complex was built by the Romans in their occupation of Lebanon in 125 AD.

The temple of Bacchus (also known as Melkart) was built as an addition to this site during its construction by Emperor Hadrian in 131-132 AD. It was also added when it became apparent that the size of this site would require more space for worshippers than could be accommodated inside one building alone.

A Phoenician priest-king named Ithobaal built the temple of Jupiter in between 3000 BC and 2700 BC.

The Phoenicians were a group of people who lived in Lebanon, and they were considered by many to be the world's first great sea traders. They sailed their ships to many places throughout the Mediterranean and established colonies in many areas. The Phoenicians also worshipped a number of gods, including Baalbek, who was thought to be a ruler over various gods as well as over time itself.

Baalbek had been built between 3000 BC and 2700 BC by Ithobaal, an ancient priest-king of Tyre (now known as Sour). This temple dedicated to Jupiter (known as Zeus in Greece) is considered one of the best examples of Hellenistic architecture ever discovered. And it still stands today!

The Temple of Bacchus was built in 150 AD, during the Roman occupation of Baalbek.

The Temple of Bacchus was built in 150 AD, during the Roman occupation of Baalbek. We know that it was dedicated to Bacchus (also known as Dionysus), because it bears his name. The temple is a huge structure that measures approximately 80 meters wide by almost 100 meters long and 30 meters tall. It is believed to have been built by Emperor Antoninus Pius in the 2nd century AD, although some sources claim that it was completed under Marcus Aurelius around 174-180 AD or even later during Septimius Severus’s reign from 193-211 AD.

Bacchus was one of many gods found on Mount Olympus who enjoyed both wine and women—so this may explain why his temple is so large!

The Trilithon stones are the largest stones cut and placed in any building on Earth.

The Trilithon stones are the largest stones cut and placed in any building on Earth. They are up to 35 feet tall, weigh up to 170 tons, and each weigh more than one-third of the weight of the pyramid itself.

The most likely method would have been using stone hammers and wooden wedges, which may have been used to split some of the larger boulders into smaller pieces that could be moved with levers and rollers. The ramp was likely constructed out of logs driven into the ground at an angle and then covered with dirt as it was built higher and higher until it reached its final height. A large wooden platform was probably used as a stable base for transporting these massive blocks onto their final position inside the structure's walls

Because they weighed up to 1,000 tons each, it's not clear how they were moved.

The stones are so heavy that they've been moved with cranes. The largest ones weigh up to 1,000 tons each, and the smaller ones weigh between 50 and 110 tons. That's a lot of weight—a lot more than your average stone statue or building material. In fact, it's not clear how they were moved at all.

Some theories suggest that the stones were cut down from their original location and rolled along the ground (similar to how a log can be rolled downhill). Other scientists believe that the huge blocks were carved into smaller pieces using simple tools made from local materials like sandstone or copper before being rolled along greased wooden tracks down steep hillsides by teams of men who used ropes to move them forward incrementally as they went along their journey toward Stonehenge's final destination.

Baalbek is one of the planet's most impressive ancient places.

Baalbek is one of the planet's most impressive ancient places. It’s an important religious place, and it’s also an archaeological site that was once home to one of the largest megaliths in history. Baalbek is located in Lebanon, near Beirut and its airport. The city has been continuously inhabited for more than 8,000 years!

The Temple of Jupiter was built during Roman times, but it was actually built on top of much older structures—including one from around 1250 BCE which had been constructed by King Hiram I as part of Solomon’s Temple. This temple was destroyed by fire after being abandoned for centuries; however its enormous size still remains intact today! That makes it one of the oldest examples anywhere on Earth where you can see huge stone blocks weighing up to 450 tons each still standing upright without any mortar holding them together
